Phlox paniculata 'Robert Poore' - Summer Phlox

Although the first thought that may spring to mind upon hearing the word 'Phlox' is mildew - fear not.  This cultivar of our native Summer Phlox is highly mildew resistant, according to research done by North Carolina State University's Mountain Horticultural Research and Extension Center.  In addition, it was awarded a Gold Medal in 2000 by the Georgia Green Industry.  Further, according to Sandy's Plants in Mechanicsville, Virginia - 'Robert Poore' is 'a must for the gardener who demands clean foliage without spraying.'

'Robert Poore' bears lightly fragrant flowers, described variously as vibrant purple or deep pink.  Color (as well as beauty) is apparently  in the eye of the beholder.  So, pink or purple - it is indeed vibrant as well as tall and provides a lively blast of color in the summer perennial border.

Provide full sun, adequate air flow and water during dry spells.  Avoid testing the mildew results, and only water the base of the plant - not the foliage.
